Well after returning 3 new iMacs I'm giving a refurb a try. Hoping for no yellow/dead pixels/etc.

Will post when it arrives.

And it's yellow. Just as bad as the other 3 I had. I called Apple, kept getting escalated. 40 minute phone call, they are calling me back. Seriously considering buying a Sony or a Dell.

Man that's awful. I hope they can fix the problem and get you (and everyone else) out one that works.

They are sending a tech to my house to fix it. Although this has been a hassle I am very very impressed by the support. They go above and beyond.

it came with a perfect screen.. i got it 8 days ago.. good luck

haha odd enough my screen started flickering after a few minutes of posting this.. haha it's freaking hilarious..

i got an appt at the apple store tomorrow.. oh well i think i'm really gonna return this one

I thought mine was perfect. Now after 2 days I can see a slight difference in the colour balance at the bottom of the screen. Still, it's so hard to see (it's like a 1-2% difference) that you can easily mistake it as the viewing angle. To be honest, I do not care at all, I'll keep my i7.

You must of started freaking out! Hopefully they can fix it for you.

the screen stopped flickering a while back of course just b4 i take it to the store ugh!! but obviously there is something wrong with it.. i have an appt at the apple store..

i don't want to take it all the way over there (40 mins) for them to tell me they can't do anything.. i'm still under the 14 days but my intention is not to return my imac, i want a replacement, and if this doesn't happen i might have to return it

has anyone had any trouble getting something fixed replaced if they can't physically see what's wrong with your computer..

When I brought my 27 inch in for screen flickering, I got very nervous about this. The genius ran about 10 different programs at once, and absolutely could not get it to flicker! Luckily for me, he believed me, and after I explained that I am a student and can not afford to be without my imac, he swapped it out for a new one right on the spot! :D

well thanks for the pep talk, i went and they said.. sure... we'll give you a new one, i was like great.. and i told her.. i'm glad the support guy that helped me on the phone told me that you would do this even if it's a refurb.. THEN she said oooooooooh it's a refurb sorry we can't help you then... aaaaah

i guess i should've known the guy on the phone was wrong... he said.. we treat our refurbs as new macs and we stand behind them.. if they don't have a refurb they'll give you a brand new one.. ugh..

anyhow.. i called again they're gonna give me a call tomorrow and i guess they're gonna try to exchange it over the phone and probably give me a credit..

i can only hope.. we'll see

Hi Guys

I'm a newbie to this forum and thought I’d share my thoughts on the problems with the Imac.

I recently purchased a refurbished 21.5 inch Imac with ITB 3.06 ghz spec etc.

When I unboxed, the machine looked perfect with no noticeable damage. I turned it on and noticed it had one dead pixel and also what appeared to be another dead pixel, but after close inspection it was actually a small chip in the glass! The chip was very small but none the less caused an imperfection on the screen which looked like another dead pixel. I have to say that you wouldn’t necessarily notice it, but when you're paying the horrendous price, it becomes an issue.

I browsed the forums looking for info on damaged Imacs, and came across the yellow tint thing and did the test with the grey bars. As you can probably guess, I immediately see the yellow at the bottom of the screen. It didn't look that bad but, its definitely going back to Apple. I also noticed a few scratches on the aluminium too.

Unfortunately I can't get a replacement as it's a refurb, but I can get a full refund.

I thought buying refurb would be a sensible option considering, but clearly not hearing pointbreakd. I think I’m going to buy a new one instead as at least I can get a replacement if something goes wrong.

Ha ha it may seem petty, but why buy a problem?

Cheers guys

1 purchase, many issues and you still want to give them your business?

okay

Ha ha i thought you were making light of my situation! I will buy another mac because i've had a macbook for 4 years with zero issues.

did they tell you that you can't get a replacement because it's a refurb?

i've gotten a refurb replaced.. back with my 24" 2.8ghz and the second one came perfect..

i don't think they'll jump to offer a refund.. they try to keep your business.. they should exchange it no problem.. u might be on back order for a few days would be worse case scenario but keep us posted

by the way.. don't pay attention to archipellago.. i don't visit the forums that often and i've already noticed he hates mac products and people that buy them.. it's sad that just because someone can't afford something they have the need to come and be an idiot..

it's like me going into the mercedez forum and be angry because i own a ford truck.. lol.. no need for that..

Yes, they were very clear that it's not possible to get a replacement refurb and a refund is the only option. I thought it was a little strange, but at the very least I get my money back and perhaps wait a little for these issues to die down. It's mad how the customer service differs from case to case. I'm from the UK, so i don't know if the policy is different.

Ha ha I really didn't see archipellago's point. Any reputable company occasionally has problems. Up until now I’ve never raised a single complaint about my macbook and the fact that so many people are dedicated to document and seek resolve, say's a lot about apple customers. There are people waiting for replacement upon replacement.
I’ve personally had too many horrendous PCs to go back.

yeah i'm in the u.s. maybe it works different here.. u know it's weird that u mention the UK i find so many people from there on many forums and around 10% of my ps3 friends are from there.. i think you guys find my sarcasm amusing and i find your insults hilarious..

i mean come on.. wanker haha cracks me up..

hope you get what you hoping to get.. i'm getting a phone call in the next hour and hopefully i'll be able to upgrade to a 27" cause i was disappointed with the 9400m video card.. i like to run some old games sometimes and that card was chocking at low settings.. even my older imac had a better card

so good luck m8.. hope your next imac goes as smooth as crap thru a goose.. (RocknRolla quote)

I think Apple is putting the yellow screen returns into the refurbishment pool. Doesnt seem like a good idea to buy refurbished iMacs right now. Apple isn't stupid. Theyre not throwing all ofthose screeens away. They just sell them as refurbished. Be careful. If you wait a few months, they might fixthe yellow screen issue upon next rev. It's not worth the hassle to buy now. They are plauged with problems.

Except they're not "plagued" with problems. At all. Apple has sold THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of these systems, and only a vocal minority is complaining. Lest we forget.

yeah my 21.5 imac that i just returned had the yellow tinge but was very subtle, and to be honest i didn't mind it.. i rather have a little yellow that i only notice if my screen is all white (which never happens) than to have dead pixels, dead pixels i cannot stand.. i believe that most people that buy imacs don't notice this issue and since they don't come to the forums or anything like that..

but i am happy because they gave me a $75 credit for the inconvenience and i upgraded to a 27" for $350 and i'm so happy about it.. overall apple has been taken care of us and even thou it would be to get it right from the first time, waiting for a replacement to come in it's like having a christmas morning over and over again.. haha
