Hey there everyone,
After much consideration I decided to let the new Mac Intel machines get through their growing pains before I get one and I just purchased the Powerbook 15 inch 1.67 GHz refurb at apple.com, it will be here next week.
Is there anything I should look for or check on to make sure everything is in working order and the way it should be? I will be new to OSX as well as I have been on my clamshell IBook for the past 8 years with OS9.
Any advice or suggestions is most appreciated.
Thanks,
J.

Hi Druma,

I just did the same thing myself! Remember that you've still got the 90 day phone support and 1 year warranty so no HUGE hurry. :p

17 Steps To A More Obsessive Compulsive You

This is my method (keep in mind, I'm a little crazy):

  1. Open box.
  2. Stand in awe.
  3. Examine case for scratches, blemishes, marks, and inconsistencies.
  4. Examine the plastic edging.
  5. Make sure the battery is properly seated.
  6. Carefully test the full range of display angles for sturdiness.
  7. Test the latch.
  8. Close the lid and view from all sides for symmetry.
  9. Test the mechanical feedback of all keys, including trackpad button.
  10. Boot up with the Hardware Test CD. Run the extended diagnostic.
  11. Examine LCD for dead pixels, line anomalies, and uniform backlighting.
  12. Calibrate screen in /System Preferences/Display. Examine color balance.
  13. Make sure the S.M.A.R.T. status in Disk Utility is "Verified".
  14. Check System Profiler.
  15. Sigh in relief.
  16. Be exuberant.
  17. Send dferrara compensation in the form of unmarked bills. :D
Done!
