Refurb deal

That refurb offer looks like a fantastic deal. I was waiting for WWDC, but even if there is a bump, I'm not convinced the bump will justify buying a speed-bumped system rather than buy one of these refurbs now. The saving is incredible. I was actually comparing the refurb prices against the UK Higher Education prices, and even with the new systems already discounted by approximately 15%, the refurbs still came out about £280 cheaper!
I've bought this one: Notably it comes with the 256MB Graphics RAM rather than the usual 128MB, and a single 1GB SO-DIMM rather than 2x512MB

I think it's possibly because when the MBP was first released there was a BTO-Option to upgrade the 2GHz to 2.16GHz, and combined with the 7200RPM BTO-Option, it probably did push the price up to around £2000. That particular refurb machine might have been one of the original MBPs from Jan 2006. Maybe

There are some absolutely cracking bargains in there at the moment. The machine I've just bought refurb is the same as the £1699 MacBook Pro (2.16GHz/1GB/100GB/256VRAM), except its a 2GHz. Other than CPU Speed, it's identical in every other spec.
The Higher Ed Price of that £1699 machine is £1444 and the refurb is £1159. That's a £540 saving on the retail price, and a £285 saving on the Higher Education price.

The UK refurb site cracks out some serious deals and the funny thing is these machines are practically new you couldn't tell the difference and another funny thing is these systems usually have silent upgrades. For example the last two machine i've bought there all came with upgrades. My PowerBook shipped with a 100GB 7200 RPM drive instead of the advertised 80GB 5400 RPM. The BlackBook i recently got came with a 2GB RAM upgrade as well as a 120GB HDD instead of the normal 512MB & 80GB.
At this point i usually check the refurb store before even checking the HE site. Its just a no-brainer. Its cheap and reliable (my PowerBook is still going strong and i've yet to have issues at all and the BlackBook seems solid. It doesn't overheat/moo/whine and has an overall solid build BUT the Powerbrick seems to be defective though (buzzes).
