I'm kinda cheap, so here goes.

new imac i7 for 2199 online no tax
or refurb imac i7 for 2090 from apple after tax

so basically, is a new imac worth $110 more than a refurb, or is there no difference?

I love buying NEW products, so I would say new one - but a refurbished one is just as good as the new one , its just been repaired sometime. You get the same warrenty and same everything with the refurbished one , so if you wanna save money - just get the refurbished one.

Just because it's a refurb doesn't mean it's been "repaired" - just means it was returned for some reason (maybe the person realized it didn't fit on their desk) and went through an Apple verification and repackaging process. OP - there's lots of threads here on buying refurbs vs. new - do a search.

Yes, I should correct that. Thanks for pointing that out. Either way you're warrenty is there, so if the product is still not working correctly - you can always take it back. Unlike buying a second-hand product from someone on the net, lol.

I got my refurbished 27" i5 yesterday. Absolutely gorgeous, no complaints with the machine whatsoever. I couldn't find a mark on it and the screen is perfect. I am very glad I bought refurbished and saved a bit of cash. Now to unload my 24" iMac on Ebay :)

I think you take your chances with either.

I got my refurb yesterday and the screen was a yellow mess. Personally, I'm now going to wait until they "issue" is free and clear before I get another...I don't want to be one of those guys that had 5 or 6 sent to them before they were happy.

I get the drill, cowboy. I was thinking that someone might raise specific concerns about a refurb i7 iMac...maybe "buy new because the old screens are prone to yellowing".

I got a 21" a couple weeks ago and it also had a yellow screen. But they sent a new refurbished within two days and it has been great so far. I'd say give it a shot.

And there it is...

Are new machines still experiencing this?

Was the first one a refurbished as well?

Nothing wrong with refurbished if you save a fair portion of the purchase price, but for the amount of savings on Mac's it's not worth it IMHO. Buying new you know everything is factory direct, ease of mind is there. Buying refurbished and you always take that slight chance, so I wouldn't bother. Give me 20% to 25% off and I'd give it a try, but not for 5% off or some low ball number like that.

I take more of a chance with less expensive items, I get into the high priced products and I wish to get the best chance for success, and limit obtaining something which may have had an intermittant problem that somehow passed quality control a second time.

The only "problem" my one month old imac has is that it wakes up from sleeping on its own. I was told how I could probably fix that, but Im waiting to get a harddrive to do a backup before I reset the permisions or fix the pram or whatever... I wrote it down. What was my point? Oh, yeah, according to me, the new iMacs are perfectly fine, I'm proof of that. I guess. Except the fan is louder then my old imac but I'm told that of course it is, the processor puts out a lot more heat then my old one so I should have expected that.
