Refurb MBA: Spend the $150 on the SSD?

I've finally decided to sell my 2.0GHz MacBook and get a MBA rev a Refurb and was wondering whether to spring for the SSD. It'd still be the 1.6 processor, but have the 64GB SSD. I'm just wondering if everyone here thinks it's worth the additional cost. I haven't personally had any issues with a 5400RPM drive, but have heard some bad things about the 4200RPM drive in the MBA.

I'm a huge fan of the ssd re:zippiness, but the machine I ended up getting (1.8) was slightly faster than the one I played with (1.6) in person. I'm attributing it to the SSD, whether it's true or not . The quiet is a plus, although slightly unnerving at start-up.

Honestly, I don't think it's worth it unless you travel a ton and have a lot of other things to carry around. And if you are worried about dropping your machine, I know SSD's are less prone to damage since they have no moving parts. Hope this helps a bit.

Whether you buy HDD or SSD it's limited by a PATA drive controller. The SSD makes a little difference, but it may help out depending on how you plan to use it? Check out the xBench marks between them. On the rev B MBA, it makes a huge difference. Good luck whichever route you go.

I have the hard drive version, and I can say it is nearly silent as well so I don't think noise should change your mind either way.

I've used both. The SSD makes a huge difference in the feel of the laptop, especially on the Rev A.

The MBA Rev A was the first computer I used with an SSD, since then, I've upgraded the primary drive on all my machines to SSD's and made sure every system I've ordered since has one.

I would not purchase a Rev A!
