Refurb MBP or New MB, maybe time critical!

So I just looked at Apple's online store and they have refurb MBPs again. What do you all think about this...

15.4-inch widescreen display
512MB memory
80GB hard drive
SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 128MB of GDDR3 memory
Built-in iSight camera

$1,299.00

or I can get a new MB for $1,000 w/ 2.0ghz, 1gb ram

The main reason I wan the MBP is solely the larger screen size, I'm not sure if I am really going to like the 13.3" I currently use a 15" lcd monitor. What do you think I should do? Will the MBP refurb be significantly slower than the new MB? Oh decisions lol...

If you think that the smaller screen is going to be a problem then go for the Pro refurbished. It should not be significantly slower than a new MacBook. Just make sure that you get it 2GB of RAM and you'll be fine.

i agree i think getting a macbook pro and upgrading the ram to 1-2gb, you can get an extra 512mb quite cheaply

I think that you should get the macbook. As long as you don't need to play games, it is the better choice. The screen might be a bit smaller, but you will get a lot more speed and 64 bit capabilities along with saving some money.

The MacBook is not significantly faster, there won't even be a noticeable difference in speed for most people. 64 bit capabilities are not going to make a big difference until you start to see 64 bit programs.

Thanks everyone for your input, I didn't buy anything yet. I realized that what I was looking at was not even the Core 2 Duo, and I read reviews saying it was slower b/c it was the first gen of the intel based laptop. Then again I don't know how they are comparing it...I'm sure it's still significantly faster than my computer now. As of right now I'm going to sleep on it, I'm probably leaning back towards the Macbook. Thanks!

you bet your butt that apple refurb list is time critical!!

i was looking at a black MB 2.0GHz, 512 RAM, Superdrive, with an 80GB HD...
it was only $1,050.00.

i left it alone for a day (waiting for confirmation on selling my older MB), and it was GONE. i was devastated. but that's what I get for waiting.

chrisdazzo, that would have been a great deal! Haha I know the same thing will happen to me...I ALWAYS debate stuff then wait to long and have the same thing happen. Apple really makes you use too much strategic thinking to buy their products...I spent a good portion of the day thinking about the pros and cons...it's torture! I'm going to be a senior in college and I'm making the switch before I owe loans which is why I'm not just going all out on the mbp. Thanks again!

i'm actually going to be a freshman in college this fall, so that deal was SO HUGE for me... but either way, i will have no loans to pay (thanks Mom & Dad!) in college, and i am looking forward to some sort of nice refurb soon from Apple.

anybody know how often Apple updates that refurb page?
