Is the mac mini refurb back to $649 and not returning to $479 as it was last week? I keep seeing these units at the prior to C2D upgrade....

That is interesting to see that model priced at $649. I don't recall the past pricing pattern when other models have gone EOL.

For what it's worth I copied this from the Apple refurb page after the site came up following the announcements last week.

What is really strange is that you can get the 1.83 superdrive model for $550 new!
 
That's the original SuperDrive 1.66 GHz Mac mini that did cost $799 when it launched.

The second revision had the 1.66 GHz model at $599 w/Combo Drive.

Ok, and your point is that Mac doesn't lower prices on old units?

This is the illogic. Why is the 1.83ghz model LESS than the 1.66ghz model -- both with the same configurations??
 
Look at these prices, 1.83 for $479? 1.66 for $649? Am I missing something here?

edit: I guess I did forget about the core solo. Crazy!

Ya, apple is seriously disorganized with its refurb mini prices.

And what is even crazier, people will buy ALL of them by the end of today! haha
 
ok

all they do is mark down the original price down 20% and thats it..they dont care that a new one is cheaper etc..they mark down the older original price by 20%

They seem to be gone, i checked just now and they've corrected the prices.
The 1.83ghz mini is gone :(


And they have the Mac Pro's for 3299+ Why are they more expensive than the base model? weird. 1GB more doesn't cut it.

Why are the 3.0 GHz models more expensive than the 2.66 GHz models? The processors cost a lot. The quad core models don't appear to be too much more than the dual core models, though.

Apple is really starting to lose sight of what it is doing and getting sloppy. I suspect it is because of the increasing success of the Mac. A shame really... almost like they are slipping into the mistakes that doomed Mac to small marketshare in the late 80s early 90s -- arrogance.
 
For better or worse, Apple bases their refurb prices on the original price of the computer. This sometimes allows them to claim a higher % discount on certain hardware (even if that hardware is "inferior" to a faster, cheaper, more recent refurb computer).

In Apple's world, it's up to the consumer to be informed about their purchase (and what's wrong with that?) If you see all the refurb deals they start with, and know the equipment, you know the 1.83 Core Duo with Superdrive for $479 is the best Mini deal to be had. (41% off original price).

The bottom line: they seem to sell out daily of refurbed minis, no matter the price-point...GO :apple:MINI :apple:GO :D

If apple takes 20% off original price, why is the 1.83 41% off now? Apple managed to reduce the price just after upgrading the mini to C2D on the two prior models. They can't figure out how to adjust the price for the prior prior models?? Pathetic.

Well that explains it. I checked the BTO page of the mac pro and from 2.66 to 3.0 is 799!! < no wonder these are 3299.

You have to remember that Xeon processors are almost always considered server processors and almost always are inside a server. They're really not meant for the desktop.

Yes, that's what this thread has been discussing. How apple is smoking something with these refurbish prices.
 
The refurb store is a total con.... Apple must think people are stupid.

For instance, in the UK refurb store, they have a 1.8ghz core duo with superdrive and 80gig hard drive for the same price as the brand new 2ghz core 2 duo/superdrive and 120gig hard drive !!!!!!!!!!!!

Why? Because he's pointing out there are GREAT deals on Apple refurbished computers? (and that not all mini refurbs are ridiculously priced)

Apple may be smoking something based on their refurb pricing formula, but since they daily sell out of ALL their mini deals, what are these consumer smoking who buy a core solo machine for 600+? If they knew what they were doing,they could have purchased a 1.83 core duo for $479...I guess it's easier to blame Apple for this...
