hey guys,

almost ready to pull the trigger on my macbook/imac combo...

is the base model (3.2, 8gb 1866 ram with 256gb flash storage) better than a current refurb apple has (2014 3.5, 8gb 1600 ram with 256gb flash storage) and the refurb is £80 cheaper than the new "baseline" model.

what option do i go for guys?

cheers, RTJ

Almost no difference but you didn't specify which graphics cards they have that might be better on the 2014.

Unless you're doing anything crazily intense, you won't notice the difference. You will notice 80 more sovs in your pocket, though.

I've bought refurbs before, and they're great! There really isn't any reason to buy an un-refurbed model, except if you desperately need the full specs of the new one or you have to customise it in some way.

+1 for refurbs. My rMBP was a refurb and love it. Only reason not to get a refurb is if you have to have it close to release, i.e. before refurbs are available.

I bought a 2013 iMac refurb and had absolutely no issues. Great product, came looking brand new.

I recently grabbed a new Late 2015 but I got it new only because I needed to customize it.

I ordered a new base model 5K iMac on Monday night. Only think I customized was the 2TB fusion drive. Stupidly didn't check the refurb store as for $20 cheaper I could have gotten the top tier model, 3.3Ghz i5 and M395 graphics card with the same 2TB fusion drive.

I opened up a Barclays card to do the 18 month financing so I'm not sure if it is worth the trouble to return the machine to Apple and order the other one since there will be a delay in being able to order with the new card.
