Hi Everyone,

I bought a refurb Powerbook last month which had the description

REFB PBG4

15/1.67/1x512/80/SD/AM/BT-GBR

Now I thought the SD stood for superdrive which I understood meant I could burn DVD's. When I clicked on iDVD it says "Your macintosh does not have a supported Superdrive. Please note that while you will to work with iDVD projects, you will not be able to burn a DVD disc." When I check my hardware and click on Disc Burning, it says that it is a Matshita CD-RW CW-8123. Am I correct in thinking I have a combo drive instead of an advertised Superdrive and if it is what can I do about it ????

Cheers
Mark

Yes, you have a combo drive, and you're right,

15/1.67/1x512/80/SD/AM/BT-GBR

does say SD which means SuperDrive.

Call Apple, after confirming that's what you actually ordered.

Cheers maddav,
Another question if I may. Was there any other differences between the 15" Superdrive and the 15" Combo (the last model before this most recent upgrade ) I can't seem to find any info on old models.

Thanks

I think (and I reiterate 'think' ;)) if it was a 1.5GHz Combo machine, things like the backlit keyboard and the option to upgrade to 128MB video card (from 64) were options but other than that, I can't remember a huge amount of difference.

However, if it was a stock 1.67 but with a downgrade to a combo drive, everything should be s normal, i.e, the only thing you need to worry about is the combo and not superdrive problem. As said, call Apple and confirm what they should have sent you.

Yeah it's a 1.67. I called Apple this morning and have been passed around a bit. I'm waiting for an e-mail from the aftersales team to see what can be done. Not best pleased to be honest.
