I was just surfing the apple refurbed store, while my parents were visiting. They had a white 1.83ghz 17 inch Imac for 699. My parents wanted me to go ahead and order it for them. So I did, but I failed to see what OS system it has. How does Apple handle Refurbs? Do they ship with the latest OS or what?

Are you certain it would be leopard? I was reading the refurb process and it states it ships with the original OS that shipped with the computer.

How would I find out before hand if it shipped with Leopard or Tiger?

Edit: Heres a link to the Imac I was able to purchase for my parents. http://store.apple.com/us/product/FA710LL/A

If it was made within the last 1.5 years, it will come with Leopard.

Too bad, you should have waited. That iMac is overpriced since new models will be out in January.

Look the link that what is one the screen of the iMac. It shows leopard on it so it will come with 10.5

I would just call and ask. I would think it was Leopard but best to ask to be sure.

I just called and asked about it. She had to place me on hold and ask a supervisor. She came back to me and told me it was leopard. I hope this is true.

Im skeptical though because I work in a call center for a fortune 500 company, and if a customer calls in to get some off the wall question answered, then some reps give them any answer to get them off the phone.

So I guess we shall see. The Imac is supposed to be here By Friday. Ive also got a 2gb ram kit coming from Newegg for this new Imac. I think my parents will love this new machine. And It will allow me to "support" them as they are a little behind in the Digital Age....

Just curious... how far are they behind? :D

LOL, This is Dad's First computer. Mom has had one for a few years. A PC, and almost every week she calls me trying to explain whats going on, and she doesnt understand what its asking, and gets too frustrated. Dad has shown some interest now that he has retired, and thats why I showed him this Imac, so that I can see exactly what they are doing from my house, instead of them trying to explain things.

But to answer your question, Dad has never even sat down really to use a computer in his lifetime. Hes 62. Mom has used one but she is a little clueless. If they had their choice they would go back to the 50's-60's and spend eternity there. They were content with that lifestyle....

it shows the leopard background why would it not come with it?

Crain, their is a refurb process that tells what a refurb comes with, and in it, it states that refurbs ship with the original OS the system shipped with. Which I dont know when this machine was shipped, nor do I know when this machine was discontinued, so I dont know if it shipped with Tiger or Leopard. Im a recent convert, and only have experience with Leopard...

if it shows the leopard dock and background, and they told you it comes with leopard why aren't you believing it comes with leopard lol

Pictures mean nothing. Secondly I work in a call center for a fortune 500 company. If a customer calls in asking about bizarre things that are out of the employees realm of knowledge, one of two things usually happen. Either they get transferred endlessly, or a rep will just tell the customer what they want to hear to get them off their phone.

I dont behave this way to my customers. But I know many people in my company that due. And unfortunately, I know very well this runs rampant in call centers, as management wants calls cleared out of the centers as fast as possible. Thats why I question it. The rep placed me on hold for about a minute, and supposedly spoke with her supervisor. She came back with it would ship with Leopard. Their website says otherwise. So that is why Im distrusting.

I didn't see the part where the website says otherwise.. and wouldn't that be false advertising if the screenshot was of leopard and then it shipped with tiger? idk though.. just call again and double check

It will come with Leopard and anyway, Apple gives you 14 days no questions asked return policy, so at worst, you may pay some freight back.
