I just ordered my first iPhone - having resisted due to the fact I couldn't afford one...until now.

O2 are selling fully refurbished 3G models - FREE on standard contract.

I know it doesn't have the compass...and I know a new iPhone is due...but it is free and I would still be unable to afford either the 3GS or new iPhone for at least a year.

I can ditch my 4 year old clunky Windows Mobile phone at last!

I got one of these about 8 months ago while speaking to o2 on behalf of a friend. So I (he) wouldn't cancel, they offered an 8GB Refurb 3G for free.

Rang up three weeks ago to see if they had any refurbs, all they could offer me was to buy one on PAYG for £349. No idea what the point of that would have been - I'm on simplicity - and I know they've previously done some cracking refurb deals for simplicity customers (£99 for a Nokia n95 8GB refurb).

Got an 8GB 3G for £220 off a forum instead, had some warranty remaining and got the screen swapped out as there was dust under it so despite a bit of external wear and tear it's saved me a lot of money, and you can't see the marks cos it lives in a case.
