Refurbished + Educational discount?

Hi,

I'm currently in the process of getting my first mac, a macbook or macbook pro, for my coming first year of university. I was just wondering if the educational discount can be used with a refurbished product?

Nope, both stores have the same prices. There is a refurb section in the educational store, so just check to make sure. How Big a discount do you really need?

No. You can access online refurb stores from both the regular Apple Store portal and the educational portal, but the prices are the same.

However you can get a refurb with addtional employee savings if you know someone who works for Apple.

There's nothing wrong with trying to get the best discount you're entitled to. Perhaps the OP could have checked it out himself, but there's nothing wrong with what he's trying to find out.

Well if he wants an even better discount why not go ADC?

I even tried it once as a DESIGN student and I told them I was a design student and they still gave me the 20% discount. Just a tip.

You could look for refurbished from apple resellers, like smalldog, that way you can save on the tax too!

It costs $99 to join student ADC for a year...that would earn him an extra $60 in savings over the EDU price for the entry-level MacBook, $30 off the upper-level stock white MacBook, or $50 off the black MacBook.

I'll be using my ADC discount when I buy something top-of-the line machine.

Nah, I think you're just being smart. Nothing wrong with saving money. Not all of us get fat allowances from mom and pop.

Sidenote: Does anyone know how much I can save on a refurb 17'' MBP if I get the student ADC?

Most refurbs ship with extra goodness like extra RAM or larger HD's

You can still use your education discount for software and some other accessories.

I would check the prices on hardware and software through your school's purchasing department too.

The Irish Apple Online Store has no refurbished products at all, it seems. Could I order from the UK one? If I had any problems then would I have to send the MacBook to the UK Apple instead of to the Irish one?
