My mom's old iPad is dying. She has an old 2nd gen iPad Air and it's overheating like crazy just running any game and the battery life is nonexistent. So I wanna get her an iPad Pro that will last her a lot longer.

I can't decide if I should get her a refurb M1 iPad Pro or a new M2 iPad Pro. Is there any significant differences?

Absolutely no significant differences whatsoever. Yes the M2 is more powerful but the M1 variant is obscenely powerful in its own right. The M2 supports a bit of extra functionality with the Stylus pen but for 99% of people that’s irrelevant. So get what bests suits your budget. I guarantee the M1 is more than capable.

Well that was easy lmao. And ordered. Thank you

M1 chip can last for how many more years before it is no longer supported by apple?

M1 and M2 models have similar performance and the same amount of RAM. With the M3 models, that might change.

I think the only real reasons to care for M2 iPad Pros are wifi future proofing (6E), apple pencil hover, and apple card financing. If none of these affect you, I see no reason to go for the M2.

Like you, my IPP is old (2017). I am awaiting to see what Amazon Prime days brings before I order. Unless the M2 is significantly discounted, I’m going to Apple and order a refurbished M1 IPP. Amazon’s refurbished units only come with 3 month warranty and a “80% battery guarantee”. Apple provides a new battery, case and 12 month warranty. For 20-30 dollar difference, I’d prefer the better warranty and a new battery. Good luck with your purchase!

I’ve just upgraded my standard 2018 iPad with the M2 11” iPad Pro & it’s night and day!

Superb size and screen

Fitted an ESR screen protector as soon as I unboxed it & it’s in a leather style folio case (hate the case with built in pencil holder when I’ll never use one)…

Really impressed so far 👍🏼👌🏼

I’d go with the new M1 also as you’ll want the full warranty along with 100% battery life.

And I would genuinely question how those speeds benefit you to be called a game changer?

I primarily use my iPads for media consumption. With those speeds there is virtually no lag, as if the content were already stored in memory. Off topic on my Mac that means that the time for large downloads, such as OS upgrades, could be cut almost in half if the website supports those speeds. Unfortunately most do not.
