All though i am talking about a 1.83 mdoel everyone is welcome to post about there heat or any other issues with their refurb MBP. Thanks in advance. Oh and if anyone has a guess at what week the refurb 1.83 might be, please tell me.

I was wondering the same thing...If they "fix" refurbished machines, would they fix the heat problems or still say they are "within specs"? The heat problems are pretty much the only thing stopping me from buying the MBP.

Thanks so much now I have so much hconfidence in buying mine next week. is it comfortable on your lap? Oh and on the apple website is don't put it on your lap for EXTENDED periods of time so you can have it there for a little while before you feel disconfort. Oh and I think that num lock thing is a minor defect in only a few MBPs

I've more or less drained the battery with the MBP on my lap, wearing jeans, and never once felt uncomfortable. Don't get me wrong, there is definately heat, and I'm certain that some people are really suffering with overly hot units, but my in my experience it's not uncomfortable.

Do you live near an Apple retail store. Because I was set on getting a refurb until I went in and asked them about it. I really wanted to buy my first mac from an Apple retail store but the guy said that refurb macs can only be purchased online.

But he DID say that sometimes people return them to the store within the 30 days with nothing phyiscally wrong with them, just the box was a opened once before (thus not completely new) but at least no faulty parts had been replaced as there wasnt any.

I didnt say quite as much as buy a refurb but with my student discount I got over £400 off which was great news for me as I now have the money for a DSLR or Cinema display.

Something to think about anyway, good luck and have fun with your new computer :)

student discount = $200 savings

Actually...

2.0 GHz MacBook Pro Education = $200 off
1.83 GHz MacBook Pro Refurbished = $450 off

So who thinks 170 MHz is worth it? The Refurbished 2.0 GHz MacBook Pro isn't worth buying.

I apologize. At the time of my purchase, a refurbished 2.0 model didn't exist. For $200, I didn't think 170 mhz was worth it. But I guess other people might.

I read somewhere that you wont really notice a performace difference less than 10%, so you might notice some difference, but not a lot. I say save some money and get the 1.8

Time vs. Money as always.
