Lately, I have been noticing refurbished Mac Pro computers on OWC, BHphoto etc. They are labeled as being refurbished by Apple and are eligible for Apple's extended warranty. Has Apple ever sold refurbished computers like this? The prices are about $300 less than in Apple's refurb store.

Perhaps Apple is getting ready for a model refresh....

maybe they have too many of them that they couldn't sell.

yes, apple refurbs have been available at B&H like this for at least a few years.. B&H will sometimes have sales which last for 24hrs in which the prices are a lot less than typical refurb prices.. and sometimes, they'll have brand new macs (or other items) at prices much lower than apple.com or lower than apple refurbished.. (fwiw, the mbp i have right now was bought through B&H via one of these 24hr fire sales for ~$1800 instead of the ~$2600 via apple)

if you're out-of-state, you don't pay nyc sales tax so B&H offers even more savings in this regard.

The Mac Pro's I just looked at on B&H Photo are all termed used. OWC does have two Apple refurbished 2013 Mac Pros but who knows how OWC ended up with them. PowerMax and Small Dog use to sell Apple refurbished Macs but then that changed and the Apple Store was the only outlet for Apple Refubished Macs for some time. I see that Small Dog is once again selling Apple refurbished Macs but no Mac Pro right now.

I think it's hard to draw any inference from those two Apple refurbished units at OWC.

I purchased a OWC refurb unit that arrived factory sealed from Apple. I have noticed that the refurb units have the 256 GB Flash Drive. I upgraded the flash to a 1 TB flash card sold by MCE Technologies located in San Dimas, CA. The replacement 1 TB flash card has a heat sink and looks like the stock drive. Upon booting, the Apple System Description shows it as an Apple 1 TB Component. It works fine.

I also want to upgrade my storage from 500GB to 1TB, maybe 2TB or 4TB, while I'm at it.

Or I may get another nMP as a backup possibility.
