I bought a refurbished BlackBook at the end of June and it arrived in perfect condition. It even smelled new. The only difference between new and refurbs is the box they come in. New units come in a slick white box while refurbs get the plain brown box.

You get the full one year warranty and the option to buy AppleCare just like if you had purchased a new one.

One thing that has been reported by several users on the Apple Discussions is that they have received free upgrades. Apple advertises the base configuration, but ships out what they have in stock. It might mean additional RAM, it might mean a larger hard drive. I wouldn't count on an upgrade, but hold off on muying additional RAM until you know what you will get.

I have mentioned this in other posts and will mention it again. It is not exactly the same warranty.

I know this because my refurb was doa and the return process was complicated and took weeks. Apple told me on the spot that if I had a brand new machine that they would have sent me out a replacement overnight. However the the return / exchange policy on refurbs is different.

Just letting you know. Cheers, Tom
