Hi,
I would buy a refurbished ipad on the apple official site.
i read the claim "Refurbished iOS devices will come with new battery and outer shell." But maybe is only a commercial claim. Usually others site for refurbished products (in 99% of cases) write that battery work like new, but if you read better, only >85% is guaranted. on 85% a battery work like new, but only for few months. So is strange that apple always replace the battery, often at better price of others websites (in my country).

So is there anyone who bought a refurbished ipad/iphone and checked the battery cycle? With iphone is easier, but with ipad you have to use software like imazing or 3utools.

Thanks

If you haven't ever bought a refurb from Apple before, I just want to say that I have had very positive experiences with Apple's USA refurb program. I've bought multiple Macs, iPods, and iPads as refurbs, beginning with a beige G3 tower years and years ago. I've never been let down or felt dissatisfied. So, if you see a machine you want offered as a refurb, you can save some money and get what is effectively a new product.

A great indication of the steps Apple takes in its refurb process is that products are eligible for AppleCare. Plus there is a liberal return policy. The only real downsides, to my mind, are that you can't buy specific configurations on demand and low specc'd models might stop receiving OS updates after only a couple of years.

Another recommendation for the official Apple refurb store. I have purchased an iPod touch, iPad mini and a MacBook from there. All arrived in mint condition. Never had a problem with any of them. Saved me some $$ too!

When it made sense to do so in the past I've leveraged the savings that I'd realize in going refurbished towards the purchase of AppleCare+ coverage for a win-win on overall value. Did so on an iPad Pro that was going to be used out in the field a lot so I wanted the peace of mind of additional warranty coverage. No regrets.

OP, I'm with others who recommend the Apple refurbished store. As others have said that's the only way I'd buy refurbished.

But make sure you check the Internet before you buy to make sure there aren't any great deals on new models out there. Sometimes there are deals that have better prices than the refurbished models. For example Best Buy currently has the current iPad Air 5th gen for $449. Say you were looking at the iPad Air 4th gen refurbished. That would cost more. So always check before you buy.

For iPads, as well as for iPhones, Apple indeed gives you a new housing and battery.

For Macs this isn't the case because they do not guarantee that you get a new housing or battery. So when you buy Macs refurbished all the parts can be used.

So even though I wouldn't buy a refurb Mac, I'd still buy a refurb iPad any day if the price was great... which it unfortunately often isn't:
For example Best Buy currently has the current iPad Air 5th gen for $449. Say you were looking at the iPad Air 4th gen refurbished. That would cost more. So always check before you buy.
And that's my big problem with the refurb store, the cheaper models will be on sale with retailers some of the time, Microcenter had a better deal on brand new Apple devices every time I bought one so I haven't used the refurb store once in my life and I don't think I ever will.

Apples gives me no incentive to actually buy directly from them when their own products are cheaper in other retail stores. The markup in Apple stores for Apple's own products is just insane.

I think what you saw was the iPad 10th gen and not the Air 5. But yes, sometimes brand new on sale from authorized retailers can be cheaper than Apple refurb.

All of the refurbs I've bought from them were practically new machines. Drawbacks I've noticed are the more limited selection and being more expensive than other third-parties.
Thanks, but are you checked with software like 3utools and iMazing, if battery was new? so 0 battery cycle.
