Can someone please explain to me why an older model refurbished powerbook is selling for only a $300 discount ($1,599)?
Even more mind boggling is that for only $100 less ($1,499) they are selling a 1.5 ghz model. Why would anyone not spend the extra measly $100 for the far superior model??? Why isn't Apples asking price more compelling.
It seems that the refurbished price is based on the models price as new. But how can they flaunt a 41% saving by saying that a model is now only $1,499 instead of $2,499 brand new when that model is not being sold anymore? You can now buy a brand new model that is better in every way for only $1,999. If you wanted to compare apples to apples look at what you would get for your $2,499 now!
Why does the original price of a discontinued model have any relevance? It should only be mentioned on models that are currently for sale new!
Y'know as long as I was pricing refurbished I figured that I would shop around here. So I IM'd one guy who mentioned he was selling his powerbook how much he is asking. He replied $1,650. Ok, so I figured that he must have just bought it in the summer and wants to sell it for the brand new one. Wrong! He is selling a 1.5 ghz model that is over a year old! When I told him I could pay the same amount and buy a better book that is unused with full warranty strait from Apple he told me that his powerbook cost $3,000 new. WHO CARES?! It seems that Apple is not the only one bragging about original price. But what does it matter that he originally paid so much last year if I can pay far less and get far more this year. On what planet would it make sense for me to buy his one year old computer that is well used and only has 2 years left on warranty for the same price as a refurbished? Is there no depreciation of value?
