Regain free space from erased partition

I have an external HD that had two partitions on it. I erased one partition. How do I get the free space back from the erased partition?

As long as the remaining partition is in the Mac OS Extended format, you can resize that partition to fill the empty space. This will help you.

Thanks for the reply. I can't drag the "Backup" partition any bigger or put in a value in any bigger than 2.9TB

Because you want to keep the partition that is lower in your partition list, there's no simple way to rejoin the space, as it exists now on your drive. If that backup partition is blank, then your can just erase the drive, which will utilize all of your space.
Or, if you have important files backed up on that backup partition, you will need to copy THAT data to another drive, then erase the big drive, and again, that will use all the space.

Ah.... yeah your problem there is you cannot resize "up", you can only resize by dragging down.

So you can either just wipe the whole disk and start over, or remove backup and resize and retitle Untitled up top.

Of course, both of these will erase data on Backup. How much data is on Backup? Will it fit in the 100GB Untitled up top? You could move the data up top, then remove Backup, then resize and retitle Untitled if it will all fit.

I moved the data from backup to the top and erased the bottom partition and then resized. Everything worked.

So when making lets say a test partition, always have it at the bottom so you can reclaim the free space after the partition is erased?
