Hi everyone. Tried to asked this over at Mojave section but no answers, hope it's okay to post here.

I need some help.
I am planning to replace my Mac Pro 5.1 with the new Mac Mini M1 so I'm trying to delete my Mac Pro 5.1 so I can sell it.
I am wondering if there's a simple way to reinstall macOS on my Mac Pro, which has the RX580 installed.
I'm pretty sure it's not flashed, but I do get the Apple logo before the login window appears, if that helps.

Should I install Mojave on a USB stick and boot from it? Or is there a different way?

Thank you in advance!

Should I install Mojave on a USB stick and boot from it?
Yes.

  • Use createinstallmedia to create the USB installer,
  • Power off,
  • Remove any other bootable disks from your Mac Pro, keep just the createinstallmedia USB installer and an empty/new/fully erased disk,
  • Power on, 2~3 minutes later it the display will work with the macOS installer on screen.
  • Install macOS to the empty/new/fully erased disk.

Or is there a different way?
No.

No.
Thanks dude! I appreciate this.
I want to install it on the nvme I already have installed so I cannot disconnect it nor erase it before I power off because it's the one and only hard drive I have.
What do I do?

Not possible without a GPU that has pre-boot configuration support, NVMe will always boots before USB since bootable USB has the lowest priority on the boot order.

You will need use a SATA empty/new/fully erased disk, install to it, boot from it, then you fully erase the NVMe. After it's erased, you start again.

So to be able to install to the SATA in the first place I have to physically disconnect the NVMe or is there another way around?

I know there is a way to decide in advance which disk to boot from - is that helpful?

Many thanks again.

Not with a PC GPU + createinstallmedia USB installer.

Alright I understand. Thank you!
If you have any experience with it - do you think it's worthy installing opencore to enable EFI?

Side note - I'm reading that most people with RX580 get directly to the log screen but I have the Apple logo loader screen before that. Does it make a difference? Is it possible my card is flashed?

You will gonna sell a Mac Pro with OpenCore? You will gonna support it for the buyer? I wouldn't.

If you don't have BootPicker when you boot with ALT pressed, you don't have a GPU with pre-boot configuration support.

Thanks once again for the input- highly appreciated.
Is there any harm in checking that? rebooting while pressing the alt? Assuming I don't see anything - I can just force shut down and start again?
