Reinstall of PB fails

Trying to reinstall Yosemite from the recovery console and getting this error: "This item is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later"

Anyone seen it and knows a workaround?

Were you running the DP release prior to?

Download PB from the MAS and make a USB installer. You will be able to get Yosemite up and going again that way.

Download PB from the MAS and make a USB installer following the instructions from Ty in the following post. The instructions have worked for PB1 & 2. I would think it would work for PB 3 as well. I made a PB 2 installer last week and did a fresh install with it and had no problems. I am back on DP though.

If you have a Time Machine backup of Mavericks, you could restore with that, and download PB from the MAS.

Try downloading Mavericks from the MAS and install using the install app, which will be loaded in your Applications folder once it finishes downloading. Once you have that installed, you can work on downloading PB again.

Wait, are you saying that I can downgrade to Mavericks just like that? I'd do that in a blink of an eye (not talking about an erase install, I cant do that).

I was talking about a fresh install of Mavericks. If you don't want to do that, I am out of options to suggest. You can back up important files to DropBox, OneDrive, or Google Drive first. That way you don't lose anything.

When you can, spend $10.00 and buy an 8 GB USB stick for making OS X install with. That will save you in the future, along with making Time Machine backups.

I actually have a 250G external hard drive that I just found but it has a lot of stuff on it which I cant erase. Can I still create a bootable USB drive with it while keeping everything else on it?

I am not sure about that. I would think you would need to create a separate partition on it, in order for that to work. Maybe someone else can chime in.

You could upload files from the external drive to Onedrive (if you have an Office 365 account. You get 1TB of space with your subscription), or use DropBox, if you have the space. Once uploaded to the site, you can wipe the external, make a bootable and go from there.

If you have an extra $10.00, I would buy a USB tomorrow and go that route, as it is a lot easier and quicker.
