Hi,

I've just followed the steps here: https://superuser.com/questions/959422/reinstall-os-x-without-cd-dvd-or-apple-id

After erasing the main hard disk, when I try to Reinstall OS X it still says "to download and restore OS X, your computer's eligibility will be verified with Apple.".

When I proceed further in the installation, it says "signing in to App Store" and there is nothing I can do but sign in... we're hoping to sell the laptop so don't want any of our data on there.

Is there anyway to install OS X without this please? I'd prefer not to give someone the laptop in this state also, in case they don't already have an Apple ID.

Thank you

The Apple ID is just to verify you have El Cap. It does not sync your Apple ID to the OS.

Once the OS is installed it’ll go through the standard user account setup on a brand new machine. It’s when you create the user account that you have the sync option. At this point you can just turn off the laptop by holding the power button.

That's fantastic, thank you :D

I just did the same thing and was able to go through to the point of having an operating computer without putting in my Apple ID on the App Store. I had to do the verify, but I didn't have to quit. I created a fake user account for the computer (not a new Apple ID) and I now have a fully functional computer. Hoping to sell this Mid-2011 iMac 27 inch.

Its just for apple to verify that you're running the os, it doesn't stay with the computer
