So I figured I would reinstall the OS on my new mbp to see if some problems I've been having would go away (green photobooth screen at launch, early kernel panic when disconnecting drive, etc) just to make sure I had a within-spec macbook pro. Right when the mbp restarted (when it restarted it asked me to insert disk 2) the screen has been flickering since. The flickering is really, really obvious. Granted, it's still installing disk 2, maybe it will go away when the OS is done reinstalling, but this flickering is really, really obvious. I guess I'm glad I found this problem now rather than in a few years when I would normally reinstall the OS.

Any ideas how to fix this? Or do I have to back to the apple store? Thanks.

If it continues after the reinstall is complete:

1. Install all updates (which will include the MBP firmware update)
2. Reset the PRAM .. when rebooted before the Welcome chime, hold Apple+Option+P+R until you hear another chime

Ok, updates alone did nothing. Surprisingly, PRAM reset worked (it seemed like a long shot lol).

When I got the computer a few days ago there wasy CLEARLY no screen flicker it only happened once I reinstalled the OS. Is my computer defective? Or do you know if this is a common issue? Thanks.

It may be a defect, but I don't think sending it back/repairing is going to do much.

Bascially I've noticed the Update + PRAM reset is fixing the flickering issues.

If everything else is OK I'd be happy with what you have!

Thanks. but if it were a defect...wouldn't it have been flickering the past few days? It really only started to flicker during the os reinstall.

I'm just super super paranoid and concerned about having a defective mbp. but it was definitely flickering like mad before, and now it's not.
