Hi everybody! I've mainly stuck with Core 2 Duo MacBook Pros and Hackintoshes but about a month ago I decided to splurge and snagged a mid-2012 13" MBP on eBay. It had no battery so I installed the one from my dead mid-2010 13" MBP. My mid-2010 has been dead since November of 2020 and as such the battery had been unused until I got this mid-2012, so my memory of the battery life on my mid-2010 may be off a little bit. That battery was an iFixit one that had been manufactured at the end of 2018 and had 54 cycles at the time I purchased my mid-2010. It had 82 by the time it was installed in my mid-2012 13". CoconutBattery put the health at 96% at the time of install in my mid-2012. The first thing I noticed was how the battery life was dramatically lower than my mid-2010. What I know for certain is this: my mid-2010 was able to last at least for 7 hours of web browsing on macOS Catalina. My mid-2012 got about 5 hours doing the same thing at the start of January. A couple weeks later I'd noticed that battery life seemed to be even worse and that it was dying in about 3 hours. At that point I decided to check the health and was very surprised to see that in about 30 days it had dropped by 14% in health. Today I saw that it was at 50% just an hour into the school day, and I know this battery well enough to say that 50% is really 30% on this machine since it always jumps from 19% to 2% in an instant. I checked the health and saw that it was at 78%. Two days ago it was 82%. What on earth is going on? This battery isn't super old, it has a fairly low cycle count (97), hasn't been under harsh conditions, and I always followed the instructions for battery longevity when it was in my mid-2010 on High Sierra.
