I have music files all over my computer. Is there a way to relocate all files that are in my iTunes into 1 single location? There are about 27,000 mp3 files that I would like to move into 1 folder.

I would then like to delete all music files from my computer that are not in iTunes (the new folder that I moved files to).

I got into this mess by originally having music in my iTunes and deleting the file from my library when I was not interested in it. I thought the files would be deleted from my computer altogether, but it only removed from my iTunes library.

Any help on how I can do this to clean up my computer is greatly helpful.

EDIT: I am open to using a software to do this.

In iTunes on Mac, click iTunes > Preferences > Advanced and make sure the media folder is where you want it. Also, click the Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized and Copy files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to Library.

Then, File > Organize Library > Consolidate Files.

This will make a copy of every file the library is aware of in the media folder in the first step. You can then go back and delete files from the old locations.

Price tag: Your time...

There may be SW that can do this, but it is a one time thing. So it makes sense to take the time and do it yourself rather than clutter your Mac with 1 time use apps.

This sounds really easy and something that I can have run overnight.

In the future, if I delete something from iTunes and the file is already in my media folder I am assuming it would be removed from the media folder. Is this correct?

When you delete songs in iTunes, it will ask if you want to remove from the playlist (if you are in a playlist container), and if you want to remove it from the library. If you choose to delete from the library, you have the option to keep the file or move it to Trash.
