iPhone Remember Tether app?

Greetings,
So I got the Tether app when it just got released (2011?) and before it got pulled from the app store. Back then you could do a wired tether from it.

I tried to do that today and was not able to. It has to go via wifi and web service which asks for money.

Q: Is it possible to tether via USB without using the paid service?

Did you get the corresponding .dmg installer for your Mac also ?
As I recall, you need both to use the app correctly.

I do not know if I have a corresponding .dmg but I would suspect I do NOT. Because I just downloaded the mac app the other day.

would they still support wired tether w/o fee as originally advertised?
