...we thought SATA 3 SSDs were fast? Four Black Magic disk speeds tests on my new Mac Pro.
1. The system drive, a 1TB volume made up of two 512GB drives, put together in hardware by Apple, thanks to the T2 chip:

2. A pair of older Samsung 850 EVO 2TB SATA drives, striped together:

3. An old Samsung SM951 M.2 (non-NVMe) drive, on a single x4 PCI-E card. I'm using him for editing scratch:

4. The ass-kicker, my two HighPoint SSD7101A-1 cards, packed with four Samsung 2TB EVO Plus drives. The entire set is RAID01'd together into an 8TB volume:

Those poor 850s are sooooo slowwwwww. In comparison, of course. ;-)

Nice comparison, thx!

Btw, a more meaningful test would be 4K transfers. NVMe total throughput is enormous and nothing beats it sequentially or with simultaneous IOPs, but most of the day to day transfers are 4K and it's parameter not much used for benchmark comparisons here.

4K random read with queue of one and queue of 64 would be a very interesting comparison.

Btw, only read results are meaningful, since the SLC write cache makes the write results skewed.

Yeah, I saw that. Heh. OK, I think I got the results you were asking for. Eight different PNGs:
1. System drive (QD1 and QD64)

2. Samsung 850 Evos, in RAID0

Thx a lot! Your 1TB T2 Storage results are impressive, very good results and better than what I was expecting.

RAID0 will do some wonderful things with speed. I'm actually curious what the 256GB option does as far as speed, since it's a single drive.

Ran same tests on my late 2016 15" MBP13,3 with an Apple 256 GB Internal SSD
