The Misty Mountains
It's been a long time since I've played Planetside but as I've slid into my WoW retirement, I find I'm missing it. Why?

* PVP only
* It had no character levels, only player XP and in just a few hours of play you could gain plenty of XP to be a strong component of your faction's efforts to conquer the world. The more XP means the more variety of combat rolls you could play.
* No player levels= no being left behind. I'm speaking of your friends out leveling you and getting out of synch with questing. There are no quests only control of territory. This is the absolute best situation for a casual player. I played two nights a week for about 6 hours total. I could jump in and be an integral part of my team.
* Absolute best vehicle combat and I loved the Vanguard, 2 player tank. Trajectory shells. One person drives, other person shoots big gun.

I played it for 1.5 years before burning out. That is as long as I've played any game in one stretch. Kind of wish I could go back. It's still going, but I don't know if it would be worth it at this point.

Planetside Wiki article.

I had great fun playing planetside too, pity the player population dwindled and the mechs broke balance.

But a sequel is coming, look forwards to the future of planetside 2.

A Planetside brother! :) I left before the mechs appeared. Could a tank hold it's own against a mech?

Lulz that I just stumbled across this thread. I came very late to planetside, less than 2 years ago.

There is only one world wide server now, at the worst of it early AM ~0300 pacific time there may be only 100 people total on line. It does not compare to what it was in the "old days." It is however still the ONLY true MMOFPS. At good prime time you can still get a battle over 100 on 100 fighting, no other game has the balance of infantry and vehicles.

I run it in boot camp on an imac currently and it runs great. It is a bit of a crime SOE still charges $15 a month and there is still a trial program (with issues from cheaters) but you can DL the client and create a trial account and play for free for 2 weeks. Give it a try and see if it still floats your boat.

have you checked "Good Old Games" website? there are some TRUE gems there! and they have awesome service. I just found out about it myself when I was looking to re-purchase two worlds when I saw the Epic Edition on Steam.
