I have the latest iPhone4 software, iOS5.0.1 and the latest mac software, Lion 10.7.2

I do not wish to sync using the iCloud, for fear of accidentally deleting something on my iPhone, and then it automatically deletes from the mac and iCloud, so will only use a USB lead for syncing

Any reminders I add to the Reminder App in my iPhone doesn't sync with iCal or even the phone's calendar, and the same goes for adding a reminder in the iCal's reminder - it won't sync with either the iPhone calendar or Reminder app.

In iTunes, the "Sync All Calendars" section under Info is ticked.

How can I get both to sync?

On your iPhone in the in the iCloud settings is reminders set to on or off?

Why would you delete someone in the first place? I just leave everyone in there forever.

I don't trust iCloud enough to have anything set to on, apart from "Find My iPhone", for simple reasons we've recently seen with Blackberry Messenger and PlayStation Network recently been hacked and going down.

If I accidentally delete a contact, or event, syncing via USB in iTunes gives me the choice to "Replace Information On This Phone", to get it back, whereas iCloud will remove it, and there is no way of choosing a previous backup

Sorry, homie. In my quest to find an answer I stumbled across your thread and I'm back to let you know that for some moronic reason Reminders will only sync with your Mac via iCloud.

I guess I don't understand your trust issue. iCloud is a way of backing up your data and keeping your devices in sync...where does the trust come in?

Have a Mac? Have a time machine drive?

It's got you covered. Sync away. You always have a nice safe backup at home.

You should always have a backup plan for everything...that way 'trust' in the service is never an issue. If something DOES go wrong, you've got plan B.

From time to time, I turn backup to iCloud "OFF" then do an iTunes backup via cable. As soon as that backup is finished, I disconnect the phone and turn iCloud back "ON"

This gives me 2 sources to use if needed. It is really simple and lasts a long time!
