Somewhat embarrassing, this issue of mine, and I apologise if you think this is not the correct forum...
Question: After you inadvertently tick "allow only these <empty list> users to remotely manage the computer" in the sharing preferences, how do you undo that?
Details:
I have an old Mac mini (2009) running 10.5 Server, doing a lot of server-stuff on a SOHO network. The machine's been running 24/7 for more than 6 years, with 0 downtime for the last three years. And it does this headlessly.
Today, with a new user (my son, 10 yo.) to be added to the network, I thought it wise to limit his access, excluding remote access. Logging on over screen sharing, I go to System Preferences->Sharing->Remote Management, then stupidly change the selection from "allow all users remote management" to "allow only these users..." (with the list of users being empty). I thought it would
a) allow me to change the selection
b) add those users to the list who are to be allowed remote management
c) apply changes
Instead, the moment I ticked the "allow only these users", the mini server dropped my screen sharing and - not surprisingly - has not allowed me back in. Serious design flaw there - it allowing a setting which basically allows no-one access...
Now, the issue is (exacerbated by the mini being this old), that while I do have a keyboard and mouse to connect to the Mini, I do not have a display.
The Mini uses a MiniDVI connector, and while I have a MiniDVI-DVI -adapter, a DVI-VGA adapter and an old VGA display, Apple's own (!) DVI-VGA adapter does not fit into Apple's MiniDVI-DVI adapter. Naturally I could try to find a DVI display, or a MiniDVI-VGA adapter, but my question is, whether anyone could come to think of another solution?
Is there no other way the mini will allow access (via terminal etc.)?
