TL;DR ... Are there any hardware remotes that work well with the new 2019 iMacs?

More detail:

I'm hoping someone can provide a recommendation - I use my iMac to watch TV and movies in my room, and need to be able to control it with a remote control from across the room. I know there are ways to use my phone and an app, but I much prefer an actual remote with physical buttons.

The old iMacs that had IR receivers with apple remotes were great, but the new ones don't have IR receivers anymore, so I assume I need a bluetooth remote this time. But more specifically, I'm looking for one that I can remap buttons for since VLC and IINA have some specific keyboard shortcuts I want to map to (like skip ahead/back 10 seconds)

Thanks!

Apple sells a remote control that does what you ask. It’s called the Magic Trackpad.

Good suggestion! I actually thought about that, but again I kinda like having physical buttons for different actions, vs a bunch of gestures.

I suppose the trackpad could be a good fallback if I can't find anything else :)

Thanks for the link! I have 27' 5K iMac in my bedroom and I alway thought it would be nice to control it with a remote.
