I have a mid-2011 27" iMac which I am very happy with. I've put a 120GB SSD in and 16GB RAM so it is plenty powerful enough. One thing I like to do every day is to watch something or other on VLC media player, a film or a TV program that I've downloaded. When I bought this iMac I bought an Apple Remote too, you know the small white one with a black strip at the end. I can adjust the volume, pause and play, check time remaining etc., with it and it is very handy. Can't imagine not having it. Which brings me round to my question:

'Modern' iMacs, or those since 2012, don't have in IR sensor as far as I know (that's an Infra Red sensor built in behind the Apple logo on the front, under the screen). So, if and when I eventually upgrade and get a newer iMac, which will surely happen at some point in the future, I won't be able to use my Remote any more. I won't be able to relax on the sofa and control my video viewing experience in the same way.

Is this true? Any thoughts?
