Getting your RDP client configured is the least of what you'd need to do to get this working.

You might be better off using a service like gotomypc.com or logmein.com.

Basically you need to obtain her external routable address, which changes periodically. Then you need to set up a port forward on her router sending 3389 to her PC's IP address (which you should make static).

Then you need to enable Remote Desktop on her PC.

Have you looked into either of the services I mentioned?

If you're still hell bent on doing it the hard way, I suggest you do some internet searches on port forwarding and whatever router your mother is using.

I'm guessing that you just want to do this in order to provide remote tech support to your parental unit. If that's the case, then maybe you want to check out gotomypc.com. And no, I don't work for them, and yes, I use RDP with TLS and an SSL cert to remote admin my home server in a secure manner. But if I had to support my mom, then I'd use a service because it would require less of a hassle.

logmein.com is good, but I suggest you use teamviewer.com.

It has a no-nonsense interface, and all your mom does is download and install, and she can call you and tell you the login ID that appears on her side, which you type in your own install.
