Thanks

Is there any types of free ones or will they all cost money?

I don't know.... Have you tried searching for "free VNC"? I bet it comes back with 2 or 3 links that you might be looking for.

"Is there any way to search on the interwebs or do I only click on links that are emailed to me?"

Uhm... hello? Screen Sharing.app anyone?

Either start it from the Shared section of the Finder (click on the target in the sidebar), or just drag the app (it's in /library/coreservices) to the dock, launch it and enter an IP in the dialog.

I never knew that existed. I usually initiate it through Finder and thought it was a Finder process. Thanks!

By the way, the full path is /System/Library/CoreServices/ScreenSharing.app.

Out of curiosity, what does the Apple Remote Desktop app do that ScreenSharing doesn't? It's priced high for a reason I assume.

you're welcome :)

Whoops on the location. That's what happens when you do these things from memory ;)

By the way, if you want the full-blown Remote Desktop, it's not $300 any more. It's fairly inexpensive these days. Check the app store

It's $79.99. I just checked it out in the App Store. It basically does a whole lot more than just screen sharing.

Yes client comes built in in OS X.

You have to turn it on from the computer, you also need port forwarding from router.

You can also start it with the URL:

vnc://hostname
(or vnc://xx.xx.xx.xx, of course).

From Terminal you can type: open vnc://hostname
