Just removed my Optical drive on my iMac (late 2009) 11,1 in favor of a SSD and was trying to use remote disc from my Macbook pro, here is my set-up:

Both machines are on the same airport extreme

Macbook Pro (running 10.8.2) over Wifi
DVD or CD Sharing is "ON"

iMac (running 10.8.2) ethernet connected

I have connected to the Macbook Pro from the iMac but I can not see the remote disc in finder on my iMac.

Is there a setting or piece of software I am missing on the iMac? Since an iMac "should" have an optical drive I was wondering if a setting has been turned off because of that.

Follow the steps outlined in this macrumors post. It may or may not work, however.
