I have a mac mini (not the 2010 model, the 2009 model) running server os and I'm installing plex.

I've been using my wife's macbook pro to remote access but wondered if there is a portable keyboard/mouse that would work well.

The mini is in the next room, separated by a thick wall.

I don't know if it has bluetooth, and even if it does I'm not sure whether it would reach through a wall.

Anyone else using remote kb/mouse for mini control? I do have IR repeaters in the room and will hopefully eventually have apple remote controlling everything, but for now I need more capability to makes changes while sitting in the theater room.

It does have bluetooth, they all have for several years.
Normally range is something like 30 feet, so with the wall, you might get 10-15, or better.

look at remote buddy it gives you an on screen keyboard and mouse accessible from the apple remote. also gives you some keyboard mouse from a iOS device. not somthing i would use heavily, but it can get you by in a pinch.

also if you have a iOS device, logitech has a free app that will function as a remote keyboard and mouse.

Not to answer for the OP, but it doesn't have a built in trackpad. Why? I have no idea. A full touchpad on the Apple Wireless Keyboard would reign supreme for Mini HTPC users.
this is true. but plex doesnt require a mouse - i dont even think it shows the cursor in full screen mode haha!

do you remember seeing apples big touch pad a few months back? im sure it would work great :D

If you have an iPhone or Touch, there are a ton of remote apps. Personally, I use Air Mouse Pro--can use as more traditional touchpad or as an 'air' mouse and has keyboard and loads of hot keys. For something more in line with the Apple remote, check out Rowmote. I initially used it with PLEX until I have my Harmony One programmed for it.

I use a Logitech Cordless MediaBoard Pro with my mac mini HTPC. It works great. It works through bluetooth and has a full mouse track pad. This keyboard was meant for use with the PS3, but works fine with my mac mini.

I've also used the Air Mouse Pro app with my wife's iphone. It works great also, but its HER phone, not mine.
