Hi all, not sure if anyone can help but here's hoping.

I'm away on a trip and I need to do some work on Adobe After Effects, but I already have it installed on two computers (my workplace PC and my home Mac Mini). Pretty sure I can't install it on my MacBook Pro too without deauthorising the other two computers.

My plan was to use Remote Login on my MBP to remote into my home Mac Mini. Everything worked great when I tested it out this morning at home. Course, I was on the same network then, so I could see my home Mac Mini. Just tried to reconnect at my remote location, and of course it can't see my home Mac Mini any more.

As I understand it, I should be able to connect provided I have the IP address of my home Mac Mini. But I remember to make a note of it before I left? Of course not.

My slim hope is that there may be some way of getting the IP address from my MBP's connection history (if there is such a thing). I've googled it plenty without any luck. Does anyone here know if this is possible, and how to do it?

Or could there be a way of installing Adobe AE on a third machine?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Only if your Mac Mini has a static IP address, in other words, an address assigned by your ISP that’s unique on the entire internet, visible world-wide, and specifically routed to your Mac Mini alone.

If you just copied the address that was given to your Mini by your router, then it’s not reachable without a pre-established remote login solution. Back to My Mac used to provide this function until Mojave. One that works well for me is called Screens. Others that people recommend are LogMeIn TeamViewer. Searching online for more. I’d stick with one that’s well known for Macs. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to do anything for this until you get home.

Thanks for your reply. Is there any way of finding the home Mac IP from my MBP, based on the fact that I connected to it earlier using Remote Login? Some kind of connections log maybe?

I just did this day ago when installing a few CC apps on a new MBP that’s the 3rd machine, which did not require remote login.

First of all, installing the Adobe CC app and then login, there is no limit to how many computers you cam do this on. Then proceed to download just one app,in your case AE, which also has no limits. Upon download finishing and you launching the app, then you should be greeted with a pop up messge window that lists the previous 2 Macs/PC of which the CC account has been activiated on. Here you can remotely choose which one to deactivate, or both if that’s what you want. This happens over Adobe’s server, and should not require you having remote access to your home Mac yourself.
