I might be starting a new contract soon and to keep things separate I will set up a Parallels VM on my 2018 6-core Mini w/32GB RAM. I’m not worried about performance when sitting at my desk.

But I thought - what if I wanted to also work from my 12” MacBook? Rather than keep 2 separate environments I could remote into the Mini. I wouldn’t do this often, but when I do 95% of the time I would do this from home on the same network (say working from my porch or another room). Maybe eventually also from a coffee shop once COVID risk is minimal.

Does anyone do this now? Or is there another solution? I suppose another option might be to have another Parallels environment on my MacBook (it has 16GB of RAM and is the i7 2017), and use Google Drive for storage.

Interested in what others do.

You can enable screen sharing (system preferences/sharing/screen sharing checkbox) on the mini so you can access it from your macbook. Won't work if you are at the coffee shop.

Thanks - I knew that as an option but as you mentioned it’s not a robust remote solution.

I’m starting to think maybe setting up a Parallels VM, loading everything on it and then cloning to my MacBook - and just using cloud storage for files.
