I have been watching all weekend for posts or a review on remote server access using an iPad. Has anyone tried this with their iPad using iRemote, Remote Desktop Connection for the iPhone or any other application? If so, please share your experience with those of us who don't have an iPad yet.

Looking forward to your posts.....

I got the WinAdmin remote desktop for my iPad since that's what I use from my phone. It works as you'd expect, and better than on the phone since it's easier to type and press things now. I even tried to remotely play a game with it, but then I couldn't find the arrow keys on the virtual keyboard.

I had thought about switching to one of the other remote desktop apps but none of them had any reviews (and apparently Jaadu stripped rdesktop capability out of their iPad version).

LogMeIn works well. They updated their iphone 'Ignition' client to support the iPad and they did a nice job on it. Glad they made it a universal app, since I paid $30 for the original iPhone edition. The server software (Mac, PC) is free.

Is LogMeIn really remote desktop, or is it using some other protocol since you have to run some separate software on your computer for it?

It does provide access to a remote desktop, but using their own protocol (and yes, you need additional server-side software). It does not speak RDP, nor VNC.

That said, the server software is free, handles NAT/port forwarding well, and (for me) has been extremely reliable. I've used it for years.
