Hello!

I own the latest Mac Mini. I was wondering what is the simplest way to waking up a Mac Mini and putting it to sleep, remotely, through an Apple Remote. If it's doable with the official Apple Remote, then I can make it work with a iPhone or iPad with Savant installed, and that's my ultimate goal.

And, is there a any way to have the Apple Remote remotely launch XBMC?

Thanks in advance.

The Apple Remote can definitely launch XBMC, and the remote can definitely wake the mac up from sleep.

For sleep, just set it to sleep automatically after half hour etc.

XBMC settings menu does the remote start

Setting automatic sleep could be problematic, because the machine could be during the playback of music or films.

Nevertheless, is there no method of putting the Mac to sleep on demand?

Thanks for the links, although I heard that since the latest OSX the sleep command through the remote is not supported anymore. Moreover, navigating through XBMC screen is far from ideal either as I want to REMOTELY put the Mac to sleep, without having to look at the screen and without the necessity of being in the same room as the Mac.

Hmm, just set your heating timer to switch off 5 minutes earlier and save 100x more electric than a 24/7 mac mini will ever use :-/

:p

Haven't heard of it, but I would have given up by this point, you're trying to save pennies. Focus your energy elsewhere, don't worry about instant mac sleep
