Remotely connecting to my office PC from my mac using VPN.

Ok so on my PC at home i can remotely connect to my PC at the office. I got instructions from my tech person at work on how to set this up. What i do to connect is open VPN Client double click on the "Connection Entry" I want and then type in a username and password. And then i Open "Remote desktop" and next to computer there is an IP address in that field and by Username it is the name of my computer at the office.

My question to you is i want to be able to be doing this same connecting on my Mac OSX leopard. So what information do i need to get to be able to do this on my mac will some one help me PLEASE!

Just follow the same process, but you will need to download the Mac version of Microsoft's Remote Desktop Client.

What extra information were you expecting to need?

The VPN connection most likely has extra info on your PC that you need on your Mac. More specifically the type of VPN Service (IPSec is popular) and a "shared secret" that lets you connect to the VPN in addition to the username/password you were given.

If you know your basic info you can use Cisco VPN for Mac:

and then MS offers RDP for Mac

Is it a Cisco VPN client?

If so you can download the Mac version here.

You may then need to get a .pcf file (config file) from your IT people to import in to the client. You should then be able to connect as normal.

You could also just export the .pcf file from the Windows machine.

Can be found in:

"%programfiles%/Cisco Systems/VPN Client/Profiles/" then just select the profile, copy it over to the Mac and then import it

If it doesn't work, then your employer might need to probably apply a different group policy to your account that doesn't require a firewall
