I’ve always been curious how apps can be remotely disabled on an iPhone that’s not part of MDM. I’m guessing this is something Apple gives developers for their apps. Can someone explain how this works in simple terms and are there any security/ privacy implications?

I think I’ve only seen it with one other app but I can’t remember what it was. The current “Informed Delivery” app by the United States Post Office made me think of this. I attached a screenshot of what the notification looks like letting users know the app will stop working. Once the app developer disables the app this notification will just say the app no longer works.
