Removable Battery

that's not new. it is kind of an odd choice though, considering everything else they make has a consistant color and none of this two-tone nonsense.
the sim gets inserted into a tray at the top, nothing to do with the battery.
Not having a removable battery on an iPod is one thing. Not having a removable battery on a phone will deter a large number of business customers.
Especially since the iPhone WiFi would be awesome but not if it is like my 6700 where using Wifi will kill the battery in 45 minutes... Kinda pointless then.

the battery life seems constant with my HTC Wing. If this is the case, I will need a removable battery so I can carry two batteries with me (as I do with my current phone)
One major question I do have about the specs is it claims to have up to 16 hours of audio playback ... ¿Is that without the tower on? On my Wing, I can get that no problem, but need the tower off (turns the phone into a touch screen MP3 player) ... on the other hand, I use my phone at work as a phone and MP3 player at the same time. At work, I am changing my battery after about 6 hours (I text while working constantly, change to different albums on the audio player or songs, take a couple of calls, and browse the web for at least ten minutes ... not to mention it checks my email at least every 10 minutes between the five accounts I have linked to the phone).
If this is the case with the iPhone (no removable battery), I will just upgrade to a faster Windows Mobile phone ... I can get a 4 GB MicroSD card and my phone can do most of what the iPhone can do ... I would go insane if my phone died during work and have to pull out another phone to use.

Exactly ... My HTC Wing only does about an hour and a half with streaming an internet radio station on WiFi ... If I didn't have a second battery, I wouldn't use Wi-Fi meaning that listening to a stream would be impossible (unless I really did not want to use my phone cause you cannot stream data and use voice at the same time ... calls would jump to voicemail and SMS would cause a break in the stream when they would come in)
A removable battery is needed ... unless you plan to only buy the phone so you can do the "I'm better than you" approach .... wait still doesn't work till you do something ... I always start a show (good old Invader Zim is a good social starter) on my phone to show the great video quality
As far as I have been able to tell, official word is still no removable battery. They said there wouldnt be one due to size requirements. Removable batteries add extra parts internally. I dont see why this would have changed -- correction -- when this would have changed. It is unfortunate but this isnt something new, we knew about this back in January.
I think having replacable batteries would make them even more money. I bet most people don't replace their iPod batteries. If they let the back open up, I'll be more people will buy an extra battery or two right off the bat when buying the phone. That way they can be sure of making more money then and there.
Of course then perhaps there would be 3rd party people making batteries, and then Apple wouldn't yield any of that cash.
Oh well, just defeated myself there.
I can't find an image of the top of the phone on apple. Maybe it's the TOP that can slide off... for the sim and the battery! Are they hiding the top for a reason? And the few images of the top were from the keynote, if I remember correctly... An arrow pointed to a place for the sim card, but (I don't know about you) I couldn't really tell where it was supposed to go.....hmmm
Here's a picture that was posted on mr that clearly shows the SIM tray on top. If anything slides off, it will probably be the bottom.
I really hope there is a removable battery. That is one of my main deterrents if there isn't. I have had WAY too many phones that have had the batteries crap out within a few months (see: krzr, that thing is only a few months old and it barely holds a charge through the day with no talk time!). I'm on board for the iPhone, just need to get some of those little details uncovered.
adding the components for a removeable battery to be possible doesnt add "That" much extra bulk, look at how small some phones are out there now, and every single phone to date has had a removeable battery (well every phone i have ever heard of, touched, looked at, etc has had a removeable battery). also its a security and safety issue, having power when you really need it is essential in emergencies (car accident, people drowning etc, etc)

for EX: both my HTC Prophet and TyTN have the standard battery as well as doublesized batteries. the doublesized batteries come with their own battery cover, ok, so its makes the phone bulky, but you have litterally 2x talk time, instead of 5 hours you have 10 hours. the phone will fit comfortably in my pocket with either battery so being thick or thin is only an issue if it creates discomfort
well actaully you have 15 because you have the original battery too. cold swapping the battery takes 30-60 seconds, maybe even quicker depending on the phone.

Regardless of the battery's ability to stand up to hundreds of charge cycles; I want a removable battery for one simple reason: What happens if I drain the battery while nowhere near a charger?

If I forgot to plug it in the night before (as I often do with my existing cell phone and my existing iPod,) then I'm out of luck. I want to be able to go a whole weekend without recharging, INCLUDING using it to watch at least one movie.

yeah that happened to me too, i was playing "The IT Crowd" on my TyTN and someone asked me if i had an iphone, even though my slideout KB was open...

My guess is the black plastic part is there to increase cell reception so I'd bet that's where the antenna circuitry is--the RF works better through plastic.
I'm betting on no removeable battery, though. If they put in a sim card slot, that's a pretty good indicator that the back doesn't come off, since the normal sim card position is behind the battery.

there will be a removable battery if they didn't then apple would lose money in the long run on all of the products like laptops adn ipods then all have a removable battery the ipods is actully in itand they have to take the back off of it and they then replace it it would make no sense if they don't have a removable battery.
I doubt that the iPhone will have a removable battery, but I am almost certain, there will be a plug-in battery (where the USB connection is) available.
An extra battery that you can just snap into the iPhone from the bottom or something. Historically, these type of battery plug-ins usually hold more juice as well.
