i am considering selling my ipod photo so as to purchase a new ipod video, however the sticky thing is that my ipod photo is custom engraved with my name on it. is there a way to remove it with an abrasive or something?

You could etch a pattern in the back with sand paper. You can do all sorts of patterns with a little patience. I'm sure a search on google would turn up some results. Sell it is a unique iPod!

An abrasive wouldn't help. As you stated it engraved, iow the letters are "carved" into the surface. Your only option is doing this to the entire back. I've seen it done a while ago on a forum somewhere, but I can't seem to find it anymore. Sorry! (Sounds like a lot of work anyway!)

Either that, or you could pay for whoever buys it to have their name changed by deed poll. You can bundle it into the cost of the iPod so you wouldn't lose out financially.

You know what eBay's like – there's bound to be someone out there who'd be up for it! :D

i, for one, wouldnt mind the engraving if i got a good deal on it.

but you can buy replacement backs for the ipod photo online, though i imagine that would void the warranty.

When I had to send my iPod in for repairs, they offered to send me one without the engraving to seave themselves money as well as to speed up my repair. You could try to call to get something repaired (battery low at all?) and see if they give you the same option.

I'm no pro or anything, but I Imagine if you took it to a machine shop you could grind a thin layer off of the back and then buff it back to it's shine, I don't know if it would be possible to just do it to the top or maybe to the whole thing including the apple.... But I think that it would work

Definitely possible, I've seen this done on the web. Any luck googling?

What don't you guys get about laser etched? I've seen iPods scratched to hell and the laser engraving was still readable.

Sand paper won't work too well, and neither will shaving off the top bit of metal. Dr. Evil would say something about a "laser" right about now...

...perhaps some Preparation H will get it off?

In any case, I think you're out of luck. Sorry.

Or try this?
