MacBook Pro with Sonoma 14.6.1
Epson ET-2850 Printer

Brand new printer won't work. It keeps saying it's not able to download the firmware updates even though everything else is downloaded. System Settings says the printer is out of ink even though it's full of ink. I think the printer doesn't know it's full of ink because it doesn't have the latest firmware. I think I'm going to try removing all the downloaded software and start over. I read somewhere that since the printer has Apple AirPrint, I shouldn't have to download the Epson drivers in the first place. I think maybe the Epson software is conflicting with Apple AirPrint somehow. How do I uninstall all the Epson software?

Same place you got the EPSON drivers - there should be an uninstaller on EPSON's website.

I found the uninstaller. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Epson software. Same issue. Power button is flashing and the firmware is not able to update. The System Preferences says the printer is out of ink. It's full of ink since it has never printed anything yet. The paper feeder works fine and the printer head goes side to side. It keeps feeding me the paper blank and it won't do its test print. I'll call Epson later on today when they wake up.

Thanks for your reply benwiggy.

Yes, It sounds like there's a serious problem there, not just a software installation issue. At least it's in warranty.

After years of inactivity, EPSON recently updated the Image Capture plug-in for my ancient (2005) scanner to Apple Silicon, so their software support seems to be improving.

benwiggy,

I got it to work. I had to talk to "Alma" the Epson girl over in the Philippines. The printer needed to finish its "Initialization Process" and then get the password to my Xfinity modem/router. After that I got the firmware update. I had to do all of that from the printer's screen and keypad. It doesn't have a direct touchscreen; instead, it has a screen and a separate keypad with arrows for UP DOWN and LEFT RIGHT with an OK button. Very tricky. I don't remember exactly how I got it to work to be honest with you.
