How do I completely remove the live photo effect from photos that don't need it so I can free up space on my device? Before iOS 11, editing a live photo allowed you to remove the live effect. In 11, there is a live photo toggle on existing photos, but it doesn't seem to permanently remove the live effect as it can be reverted.

You can still edit the photo and remove live effect that way.
 
The only way I’ve figured out to completely get rid of the Live effect is by editing the photo in Photos on my Mac.

That's the issue I'm having, that isn't a permanent solution. It's still going to retain all the video information along with the still.
