Well I suppose Dell makes better HD's than Apple.Or are just unlucky?
lol... I don't know why people insist on blaming HD failures on the computer manufacturer...
I used to work at dell. I've seen their computers last 4 years, and i've seen bthem last 4 weeks. you got a faulty hard drive. **** happens. call apple and they'll fix it, no questions asked. sheesh. stop whining
Yeah, just the other day my Marware sleeve for my MacBook got torn too! Why can't Apple make better non-Apple sleeves!?

Seriously... Apple, Dell, and everyone else, their brothers, and any pets they keep who engage in OEM'ing computers, use HDs from the same small set of manufacturers. Barring things like bad power supply to the disk, there's a statistical distribution of performances. Google even recently demonstrated that temperature has little to do with failure rate. Some of the units last 10 years and some of them fail. They manage the overall rate of failure and the MTBF. But they can't guarantee that you'll never get a bad egg.
I'm sorry you got a bad hard drive. If it helps you to hate Apple, enjoy. But in the long run it's a better investment in yourself to actually understand the technical limitations and commercial landscape so you can understand what does and doesn't happen and who you can blame in each individual situation.

It has nothing with Apple as others have said. Hard drives die. They are a moving part and some are made better than others. Apple can't crack the hard drives open and inspect them it will harm the integrity of the drive.
All they would do is run a test and send it along. That test wouldn't find a flaw in the drive that would tell you it will die in 4 months. Could be that the bearings weren't set right. It happens. Don't get pissed at Apple. They will replace it for sure. That you should be happy with.

They would probably not give you a refund on a hard drive failure, they would no doubt give you a new hard drive though. If you hadn't noticed, the hard drive manufacturer is most likely either hitachi, seagate or samsung (none of these being apple anyhow).
I've had 1 hard drive die on me so far, I was quite angry as it was just out of warranty and I had hardly used it. It taught me to always back up my files.

Hard Drives fail.It might happen 2 days after you buy your computer,or 15 years after you buy it,they all fail.Doesnt matter what Computer you have.Thats why we back up data.
I know it's not apples fault. I was just kinda pissed off at the time i made this post..... I'm gonna sell my dell laptop and ask for a refund on my macbook. Hopefully the dell and macbooks money can go towards getting me a mbp

As i said before i do not blame apple i was just extremely pissed at the time it happened. Wouldn't you be pissed if you spend your hard earned money on a device which breaks 4 months down the line? And i'm not just knocking the hard drive here. Many macbook users have been complaining about how the hinges are too fragile and that parts of the laptop like mine around the front of the palm rest are just coming off in your hand. Even though i have had 5 problems with my macbook now. I still like apple over the rest
Looking at some of your other posts, seems like you have been a constant source of complaints. I especially liked where the dog damaged your computer. Or your advice to some else, "Do not tell them you dropped it.." I also noted you could not produce a picture of your damaged computer. What's with that?
If you don't blame Apple, why did you title your thread the way you did? It doesn't make sense to me. Apple didn't make the hard drive, get mad at Toshiba. Every piece of equipment has some sort of failure rate. It is a part of life...

Windows ate a document? People don't blame Windows, they blame "the computer". Same thing here.
All hard drives fail? Well tough luck then, perhaps use a different technology that doesn't fail? Saying that it is alright to lose all your work because they all fail is kinda hand wavey logic to me.
