Deleting an account is difficult and requires the password.

You'll have to have cooperation from your daughter, and thats unlikely. :p

MSN is great resource for school and helps to develop typing skills, its not all bad. That said, she is your daughter, so just tell her to get off when you think she's been on too long.

I am sorry if this sounds petty but I didn't ask for advice on parenting I asked advice on how to remove an account from MSN.

I am very happy with all my kids having unresticted access to the web I just want to remove a couple of my daughters MSN accounts as I cocked up when trying to remove them myself. Passwords are not a problem as I log any passwords used on this computer.

Well, then, *I'm* sorry for being petty, but did you actually try searching? Or contacting MS?

Just for what it's worth...I'm not trying to tell you how to be a parent. But your system is safer if relatively few users have broad system priviliges. That's (1). I run *myself* with limited system privileges for this reason. Although naturally I have my own admin password.

(2) is that if you delete her MSN account, it's gone permanently, but she can make a new one if she wants to, and just go right back to using MSN. If you have to delete her account to stop her from using MSN, instead of just asking her, then clearly that's a realistic possibility. On the other hand, if you just use modified privileges to allow her to do everything she can do now except open the messaging software (this is different from using parental controls to restrict access to websites, but I'm sure you already know that), then whether or not she makes a new MSN account, she still can't use messaging. And should the rules change later, she's still got her old account to use.

So petty, perhaps, but it seems like a much more expedient solution....

Nobody was trying to offend anyone. Parenting is a touchie topic and I know if I were making a post like Rory, I'd expect a few different repsonses agreeing or disagreesing with the way you go about doing things. Its completely your business how you go about parenting (or anything else really), but life is just easier if you don't let others suggestions that you may disagree with bug you too much.

Keep on smiling.
