Removing data from ancient iMac

I have an old Rev A, tray loading, 233MHz, Bondi Blue iMac with a dead display.

There is stuff on the hard drive that I would like to retrieve.

How can I do this?

Did those old iMac's support an external monitor?

I'm not certain if this solution is compatible with this iMac but I think you should be able to use Target Disk Mode to retrieve data from its hard drive.

How about removing the hard drive and putting it in an enclosure (or finding someone to do that for you?

Does it have os9 or osx? if osx you can log in via ethernet cable via ssh.

Bollocks. I had a horrible feeling there was no firewire. So much for that then.

I've got one that is till runnining.

I connect it to my router via ethernet cable then on my main machine running leopard I can see it under 'Places' (I think, not at home right now). But this is because I have it running Panther and clicked file sharing in system preferences. If you have sharing clicked then you can get at all your stuff that way. Or, I would take out the hard drive and put it in an external enclosure to get it.
