I am trying to remove a fan assembly from a MacPro 2009 (4,1) for cleaning. I believe this is the PCI fan. It's directly below the frontmost hard drive bay.

I have loosed the screws and slid it away from a securing lip but something is holding it in place (something from the underside, where I can't see)

What do I need to do in order to free the fan?

I've googled but can't find a thing.

What do you mean the screws slid away from a securing lip? Did you lose the screws or something? Did they fall down somewhere in the case? Why do you need to remove the PCIe fan?

Btw, I have the same mac pro as you and I never had to remove the fan at all.

Are you Perry Mason or something with this cross-examination? Geesh, dude, I really don't understand the attitude...or at least what *seems* to be your attitude.

No I don't "have a screw" loose, nor two..and no, there aren't any screws that have fallen into the case.

I was pretty explicit if you read my post what was going on and why I'm trying to do it.

I have the tear apart guide for the 2009 MP if you want it. Just PM me. I've removed mine twice without any problems after taking the screws out and the slip that you are talking about.
